Midlanders were treated to a flyover from history this morning as a small flock of warbirds flew over the city reminding us that the CAF Airsho takes place at MAF this weekend.
It isn't often one gets to see Fifi, the only remaining flyable B29 Superfortress, flying with a P51 Mustang escort these days. But there they were in full historic splender.
What a thrill it is to see those old planes. And the sound? There's nothing that could ever match the noisy rumble of a big old internal combustion airplane engine. If you've seen "Casablanca" you'll remember the final scene as Rick and Ilsa said their good-byes. Then the powerful engine on the DC3 fired up to drive home the unseen force that was bigger than both of them. What a sound.
