Someone designated today as Gun Appreciation Day to acknowledge the good that comes from gun ownership. And two men who are active with the Midland Shooters Association set up a celebration day at the MSA rifle/pistol range.
There was a swap meet with lots of interesting things for sell. Yep, someone had an AR-15 for sale, and judging from the asking price, that particular product is in short supply. But hot dogs were free! Yeah!
The event grew a small crowd, and it's refreshing to know there are plenty of people around who recognize the good fortune we have of living in a country with a constitution that gives its citizens the right to protect themselves in the most efficient way possible. It doesn't take much internet searching to find countless examples of how guns have saved lives.
The problem is the deep rooted anti-gun bias displayed by many pundits, members of the news industry, and politicians. Their desire to disarm the citizenry balances the scale with their faith that the government should take good care of everyone from cradle to grave. They say "safety net," but envision a "fishing net" ensnaring the populace to make them dependent on government. It's easier to enslave an unarmed citizenry.
