The Corner points us to the topic of a life size bronze statue commemorating the homeless somewhere along Lady Bird Lake.
A Statesman article from last March said the homeless advocate whose idea it was intended to raise a couple hundred thousand dollars from donations to get it built. And that's a grand idea for getting it done.
Apparently the folks who would be expected to fund the sculpture had better uses for their money. But the next best thing to voluntary donations is forced donations. So taxpayers may end up footing the bill as keyetv.com says the Austin city council is now considering paying for it. They got an amusing quote from a homeless guy who would be one of those intended to benefit from the sculpture:
You want to get rid of the problem down here? Build someplace they can stay at.
