Donald Trump allowed Ted Cruz to deliver a pre-planned speech. But Trump's people orchestrated a booing campaign near the end of the speech. So for Cruz it ended on a down note. Next thing you know Trump is excoriating Cruz on national TV.
Ben Shapiro has the skinny in a blow by blow account at EXCLUSIVE: Cruz Camp: Trump Campaign Approved Speech, 'Orchestrated' RNC Blowback To 'Make Cruz a Pariah'.
As for Trump's claim that Cruz added words to the pre-planned speech, see those words at Trump is right, Ted Cruz DID add a line to his speech. Those added words seem rather innocuous. About all they did was change the total word count. Apparently, that's all it took to bring Trump to a boil.
But why did Trump go ballistic on Cruz? Here are some possible reasons:
-Cruz will be a force to be reckoned with in the Senate.
-Trump will try to increase presidential powers with executive orders and heaven knows what else. Cruz will attempt to halt or slow him down.
-We don't know what kinds of judges Trump will appoint. Cruz will try to block the squishy ones in favor of those who support the Constitutional.
-Cruz isn't afraid to filibuster.
-Finally, Cruz requested that voters vote their consciences. Team Trump must believe that voters will be violating their consciences if they vote for Trump.
Trump really must feel threatened by Cruz.
