In a post dated October 2, 2003, titled Texas Rangers called in by Midland Police Department Chief I described the alleged assault by a police officer of a juvenile. The Texas Rangers investigated and turned over their findings to the District Attorneys office, and a Grand Jury was convened.
In a press release today the Midland Police Department announced that it has received word that the Grand Jury has indicted Officer Steve McNeill for Official Oppression. Officer McNeill is on administrative suspension.
Update 11/21/03: The Midland Reporter Telegram has an article about this today. The charge of Official Oppression is a Class "A" misdemeanor with a possible penalty ranging from up to one year in county jail and up to two years probation and a fine of up to $4,000.
