The October 20 press release from Information Officer Tina Jauz informs us that the Midland City Council will take up the dog park issue again today. Ms. Jauz informs us of the following:
During a 9:00 a.m. [October 25] briefing session, the City Council will listen to a presentation regarding the status of fund raising and the design of the proposed dog park. One year ago, the City Council approved the concept of a dog park at Hogan Park and gave direction for fund raising efforts to begin. "Friends of the Dog Park" was formed and to date has raised $5,428. KDC Landscape Architects has worked with Animal Services and the Animal Services Advisory Commission to design a five acre dog park that includes 1.5 acres for dogs less than 30 pounds and 3.5 acres for dogs over 30 pounds. Construction of a basic dog park including fencing, double gates, water, and signage would cost around $40,000. Additional amenities such as benches for owners, dump stations, agility ramps, hurdles, tables, etc., would result in a total cost of approximately $70,000.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend. Hopefully, some interested person who attends might send me a email about it.
Updated 10/25/05; 4:57 pm - Heard on the radio that the Friends of the Dog Park made a presentation to the city council and that a vote will take place in November.
