Midland Public Information Officer Tina Jauz' press release of 11/4/05:
The City Council will consider appropriating funds for the purpose of constructing a dog park. During an October 25th briefing session, city staff analyzed the proposed elements of the dog park. It was recommended that all construction be handled in-house. $35,500 would be appropriated from the 2003 park improvements unappropriated fund balance to be used to cover the cost of materials. The cost reflects a reduction from the estimated $70,000 due to the use of city staff for the installation of fencing, gates, and concrete walkway. City staff would also handle water stations, rules signs, and parking lot improvements. Though fundraising efforts, Friends of the Dog Park have gathered $5,428. These funds could be used to enhance the total project with the purchase of the proposed park entrance sign, agility stations, or park benches. The park will be located at Hogan Park. I certainly am glad they got the cost down to a more realistic level. We'll see tomorrow what the City Council thinks about it.

Morning of 11/8/05 -- FLASH -- The measure passed!

Sounds like a sensible plan that the council can pass and hopefully be expanded on when successful.

Could you get me the email address for someone involved in the dog swim event ?
The Midland event may be one of the largest dog swim fundraisers in the country.
I am also intersted in knowing about the sign they are planning to erect.

Coy Willis has put in years of service to the city of Midland in the animal shelter. He has been responsible for finding hundreds of homeless animals homes for adoption. I would like for you to name the new dog park "The Coy Willis dog park."
