Someone said that a "weed" is a plant that happens to be in the wrong place. And the oak trees on the Midland Memorial Hospital's future parking lot just got in the way.
Out here in West Texas a tree isn't something we take for granted, and almost every tree is here because some human put it here. (See if you can spot the
squirrel in the center of the photo on the left. It's tempting to feel sorry for him in his new homeless state, but he's a pesky rodent, and he'll adapt all too well. Closeup on the right.)
It's painful to see big oak trees yanked out of the ground like huge weeds. But it's hard to look away. If you haven't seen a big piece of construction equipment tear into an oak tree it's a sight to behold.
As of the time of this writing there is one tree left. The tree has absorbed the utility pole anchor cables, and it's hanging on for dear life.
Who needs a buncha' stinkin' trees when we can have more asphalt!

Wallace, don't you just love the smell of asphalt in the morning? It smells like progress.

Well I don't see why they can't just pave around there.... plenty of places have trees in the middle of side walks and such... and not just places like New York... take for instance our own Clay Desta Building... they could have just gone around it... HOLD ON TREE... HOLD ON FOR "DEERE" LIFE! Yeah... that pun wasn't as funny as I had intended

Kristen, well I thought the pun was funny. But it's a darn shame about the trees.
