Remember the trial of State v. Pickard, the arson case of a few months back? Robert Pickard was charged with arson after his house was severely damaged by fire, and the jury found him not guilty. The case was followed closely on these pages, and you can see the daily summaries here.
Mr. Pickard filed a claim for the fire damages with his insurance carrier, USAA. But they denied the claim, and he sued. A trial date had been set in November, however the case was dismissed on 9/24/08. I emailed Mr. Pickard's attorney, Hal Brockett, asking whether there was a settlement, and if so, how much. And here's the reply I received:
Dear Mr. Johns
The Pickard v. USAA insurance case was settled at mediation on August 7, 2008. It took a little while to get the paperwork done but the civil case was dismissed on September 24, 2008. The civil case has now been concluded.
I cannot disclose the amount of the settlement because it is subject to a confidentiality agreement between the parties.
Thank you,
Hal Brockett
