People involved in their community can make a difference in someone's life everyday. But USA Weekend's Make A Difference Day made today a special one with a contest in which helping others can win a big prize. They are giving away ten national prizes of $10,000 each.
HospiceMidland (HM) entered the contest, and with the help of an amazing group of women called "Angels in Aprons," they made a difference today.
Once a month the "Angels" cook up a storm in the kitchen of the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. They take orders, prepare hundreds of entrees, freeze them, then sell them to the public at cost. The October menu consisted of Chicken Cordon Blue, Broccoli and Almonds plus a Fruit Dessert. (Psst. I sampled one of the Blues, and it was delicious!)
HM ordered a bunch of them, and today about a dozen volunteers picked up and delivered frozen meals to 75 hospice patients. By all accounts, the mission was a tremendous success, and the patients were very happy to get a visitor, especially one bringing a scrumptious meal.
The odds of winning the contest are long, but the rewards one can get from helping others is an easier prize to win. Kudos to Susie Mauldin and the volunteers at HospiceMidland for making a difference in so many lives and helping make Midland such a wonderful community. Good luck in the contest, you deserve to win!
