We've probably all had this thought. We're taking a stroll in a park, and the idea hits: "If only there were some stairs to climb."
OK, maybe not, but patrons of Windlands Park in Midland, TX, saw some changes last week in the form of nine new exercise devices. There were some rudimentary workout stations already there, such as a 4x4 balance beam a few inches off the ground and a sign explaining how to touch one's toes. But the old wood was showing some age. And a modern man/woman needs modern equipment to keep in shape.
It's the Healthbeat outdoor fitness system for ages 13 and up from Landscape Structures, Inc..
The thumbnails are pop-ups. Left click on a thumbnail and a larger picture should pop-up in the same window.
There are some stairs to nowhere, a rowing machine, and a new pull-up bar.
There are Tai Chi wheels, a squat press, and a plyometrics station.
Let's not forget the ab crunch leg lift bench, the assisted row/push up bars and the balance steps.
The devices should be self explanatory, but just in case, the marketer has videos to demonstrate how to use them. (Scenic lake not included.)
Thanks, Parks and Recreation Department. A jog through the park just got more interesting.
Thanks, I walk a lot at Windlands and always thought that old "par course" was a waste.....designed by some aging hippie. I mean how much excercise can you get walking on a balance beam. You're better off walking at a fast pace for a couple of miles.

Yeah, it was more like a field sobriety test than a workout, Wallace.

Love the equipment. Too bad more parks don't have something similar. Although, a couple of those pieces of equipment do a look a little odd and would need some instruction.

Wayne, that equipment is a nice addition to the park and will probably get a lot of use.
And yes, some of it might look confusing from the photo, but there are illustrations at each one to get people started.
