Taser's Axon is a system marketed for law enforcement use which uses a camera and microphone worn like a headphone. It records everything the police officer sees and hears. A GPS pinpoints the location, and the device sends the signal to a remote system so that it can't be compromised.
It's a pretty neat gadget, but they ain't cheap. USA Today puts the price tag at $5,700 to equip one cop. But like most new tech devices, the price is bound to come down. And the economy is bound to improve, too, eventually giving municipalities some budget breathing room.
In the meantime, those jurisdictions rich enough to implement them now can serve as a laboratory for any health issues that might arise from wearing a radio headpiece for 12 hours at a time.
George, maybe some individuals/groups will step forward to 'Adopt-a-Cop' as they did locally for the bullet-proof vests.
True, big difference in the prices ... but as you say, the price is bound to come down.
