The pundits are abuzz about Arizona's new law concerning immigration enforcement. San Diego City Council condemned it. And some Californians are considering a boycott
But Arizona's approach to immigration is not California's biggest problem.
Californians should be tying to figure out how to stem the outflow of their own citizens to Arizona. Glance at the IRS downloadable spreadsheets for California migration data and Arizona migration data to see who's going where. In case it isn't already obvious, California has a net outflow in relation to Arizona.
Here are the 2007 - 2008 numbers from the spreadsheets available at the above links:
In terms of number of tax returns --
From California to Arizona: 21,810;
From Arizona to California: 15,529;
Net difference, in favor of Arizona: 6,281.
In terms of adjusted gross income --
From California to Arizona: $1,052,221,000;
From Arizona to California: $681,018,000;
Net difference, in favor of Arizona: $371,203,000.
Citizens of California, you have our sympathies. And you should be grateful that Arizona welcomes Californians across its borders. Since conditions have gotten so much worse in California lately, or at least they've become more widely known, one has to assume the migration trend will accelerate.
Post Script: Note to Eric Holder, you can read the Arizona immigration enforcement law right here.
I knew little in this part before,thank you for you information! May the joy and happiness around you today and always.
