The Tesla Roadster in an electric car that will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, has a top speed of 125 mph, and has a "real world" range of 245 miles per charge. Source: Tesla FAQ. It's a sleek, beautiful automobile. But production is limited, and the price is high.
But it caught the eye of someone at Toyota. And the other day Toyota and Tesla announced an agreement. Forbes gives us the guts of the deal:
In a surprise announcement the companies said they will cooperate on the development and production of electric vehicles and components, and that Toyota will buy a $50 million stake in Tesla when it goes public in the near future. Tesla also said it had purchased Toyota's former NUMMI factory near Silicon Valley.
The match-up looks like a good deal. Imagine the result, an inexpensive, reliable, fast electric car.
All right, all right, Toyota can't get out of here without a joke:
A hot, fast electric Toyota -- drive it once and you'll never stop.
OK, now that we've got that out of our system, a Toyota/Tesla team could have tremendous potential.
