The other day our local Midland Reporter-Telegram contained a short section called Basinroundup which had an item saying the Fort Stockton City Council was considering discontinuing live televised broadcasts of their meetings. But the Fort Stockton Pioneer' article Council not ready for prime time anymore?, suggests there is definitely some interest in keeping it. Good for them. It's such an easy thing to do, and it serves a community well. More cities should do it.
Our own Midland, Texas, City Council certainly should. I talked about this before, but let's repeat. There are video cameras already in the city inventory. And there are employees who know how to use them. Suddenlink provides a government access channel. All the pieces are in place, it just takes some motivation to put them together.
Plenty of other Texas cities broadcast their City Council meetings on TV. But let's face it, Midland is no Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Richardson, Plano, Irving, Round Rock, Abilene, Pasadena, Denton ... Heck, this could go on forever. But let's not omit our nearby neighbor San Angelo which is way ahead of us in the public meeting broadcast arena.
Previously: Tall City TV should broadcast the City Council meetings.
