TV commercials with ear piercing sounds or volume higher than the TV show the viewer was watching have probably been an annoyance since "The Honeymooners" made its first run.
Well, the Senate passed a bill requiring the FCC to begin enforcing noise regulations. It has to be reconciled with a House bill, but that just might happen. News.yahoo.com, via Slashdot.org.
At first blush it seems like a good idea. But more regulations usually mean higher consumer prices. Someone along the broadcast stream will probably have to buy new equipment, and you know what that means -- higher cable bills for something we'll barely notice anyway.
