There's a joke in there somewhere -- how many federal bureaucrats does it take to screw up a light bulb?
As Texas Governor Rick Perry rides into the arena with his sights on the presidency, sparks are flying as the hooves hit the asphalt.
And one such spark was a bill Gov. Perry signed into law last week aimed at the federal ban on incandescent light bulbs. It's HB 2510 authored by Representatives Lavender, Beck, Burkett and Hughes that will go into effect on 1/1/2012.
It says an incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas on or after 1/12/2012 from materials located in Texas is not subject to federal law or federal regulation.
It's basically symbolic, of course, as there are probably no light bulbs currently manufactured in Texas. However, the bill conveniently authorizes the Texas Atty Gen, upon request by some potential manufacturer wishing to take advantage of the bill, to seek a declaratory judgment in federal court that the bill is constitutional. But it does make the point that the states are fed up with federal meddling.
So how many federal bureaucrats does it take to screw up a light bulb? Don't know. The dang CFLs don't put out enough light to see 'em.
