Josue Ibarra gave his all as a Marine PFC in service to America, and his death really brought home the cost of war as his home town learned he had been killed in Afghanistan. His death brought home something else, and that was the value to our society of people like Yoshi who are willing to fight to keep us free. The very least we could do was give him the honor he deserved.
It was an emotional scene Thursday afternoon when his funeral procession passed on Wall Street. People who didn't know him were standing on the sidewalk with tears in their eyes as they watched the parade of vehicles.
Here's something that has probably been done before, but it was a first for me. On the intersecting streets on Wall at the central fire station, two fire engines had their ladders extended toward Wall St. with an American flag draped between them.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Yes, it does, and what a sight it was. The city is proud of Yoshi, and they showed it.
And I'm sure everyone hopes these occasions remain rare.
