This sounds like a Monopoly game card. Not exactly a "get out of jail free" card, but for someone stuck in the un-air-conditioned Texas penal system it might be an upgrade.
Tex Parte Blog gives us the rundown. John Wesley Manning was cooling his heals in the state pen when he mailed a death threat to a federal judge. When a U.S. Marshal visited Mr. Manning and asked for a hand writing sample, Mr. Manning wrote,"I want to be in federal custody."
He got his wish, for the next 70 months.
Meanwhile, Randall Lee Church did his time -- 26 years for killing a man when he was 18 -- but exited prison to a world unlike any he remembered. So he set fire to a house then confessed so he could get back to a familiar setting.
He got his wish, too. Mr. Manning should have counseled him on the advantages of going federal.
