But according to Wired.com, there's about a 12% chance of an "enormous megaflare" within the next decade.
The last really big one did extensive damage to electronic communication, such as it was in 1859, so we can assume the damage next time will be significant. So there's time to plan.
With all that money the government wasted on worthless stimulus expenditures it's a crying shame the money could not have been put to better use, fortifying the power grid, for example.
Hopefully, the experts will provide advice to on how ordinary people can protect the electrical devices in homes and vehicles in the event a huge solar flare heads this way. And one thing even we can predict: store shelves will be cleared of surge protectors.
