When it was first reported, Andy and Tracey Ferrie were facing charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm by blasting away with a shotgun at two men. That the two men had been in the process of breaking into the Ferrie home in the early morning hours seemed inconsequential.
It appeared as though British laws about self defense were so progressive they turned common sense on its head -- turning victims into bullies and bullies into victims.
But wait just a minute. While this subject was simmering in my Pending file the Crown Prosecution Service announced that the Ferries would not be prosecuted. So there may be hope for Brits all.
Contrast that angst and anxiety with the state of mind in Kentucky where 92 year old WWII veteran Earl Jones heard burglars breaking in the door. He grabbed his .22 rifle. And when one of the intruders entered his room Jones fired a bullet into the guy's heart. The only people facing charges there are the dead guy's accomplices.
