I missed an opportunity to dispose of my old Windows ME computer at the Texas Recycles Day last month as I didn't find the time to take out the hard drive beforehand.
That particular endeavor happened today as an Xmas present arrived: A Sabrent HD enclosure with its very own cooling fan. The listed price is $26.99, and Texans get to pay sales tax for Amazon buys (thank you Gov. Perry). And that might be too pricey just to be able to have access to another 20 GB. But there's an obsolete word processor program on that drive that I have hopes of resurrecting to regain access to some old document.
In any event, the drive enclosure came with its own power cord and USB cable plus everything needed to put it all together. It was a snug fit, so it's a good thing the original jumper settings worked as it would be hard to get it back out to make any adjustments.
Anyway, this post probably won't mean much to anyone else but me. But I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for this cool way to recycle a hard drive.
UPDATE: Photos added.
hmm! thanks for the tip. I got a few old drives hanging around.
