Well, maybe not ban news coverage entirely, just the breathless wall to wall coverage we get now. All we needed was a perfunctory announcement then only the relevant parts as they come out.
As it is now, the networks obsess over these things. Yesterday, if you watched any TV news programs, the world stopped except for the mass killing of children in Newtown, Connecticut.
The call for new laws is loud and clear with liberal President Obama sending a message:
And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.
That's a gun-control dog whistle to give him cover and get his followers going.
John Lott and others say that the writings left by most mass shooters indicate that their motive is twofold. One is to commit suicide. The other is to get as much news coverage as possible, perhaps to get noticed in a world they perceive as ignoring them.
So if anyone wants action, focus on the news coverage and how to deny killers what they want.
Worried about 1st amendment rights? Apply that same level of worry to the 2nd amendment.
