It takes a war threat to get Dems on board with missile defense

Seems like every time the subject of missile defense came up during a Republican administration Democrats criticized it to no end.

It started during the Reagan administration – critics called it “Star Wars” as a way to ridicule it as far out science fiction. And its mere presence, they speculated, might spark a preemptive attack from the USSR before their nuclear warheads became useless.

Democrats were against a device that could actually save lives. And Barack Obama was one of them.

It was always so much easier for them to take pot shots at Republicans when they were out of power. But that's changed. And sometimes something can be so obvious that it pierces through ideology. And recent acts and words from North Korea caused a like a light to go off in Obama's head as he now seems to think missile defense isn't such a bad idea after all.

Better late than never.
