In this era of precision guided military projectiles it was inevitable that someone would apply some of that technology to sporting rifles. Austin based Tracking-Point has done it. And the result is an amazing rifle with integrated scope which does all the work to hit a target 2/3 of a mile away.
The shooter sees a red dot in the scope which he places on the target. Then he pushes a button. The computer in the scope calculates and compensates for wind, temperature, atmospheric pressure, Coriolis effect, spin, drift and other factors. The shooter sees an "X" in the scope along with the red dot. Squeezing the trigger arms the rifle, but it doesn't discharge until the "X" and the red dot are aligned. Then BAM! Bullseye!
There are a couple of videos about it. Here's the company's promotional video. However, this one gives a better overview, in my opinion.
They claim it even works on a moving target, but with prices ranging from $17,500.00 to $22,500.00 it should work on targets that have gone extinct.
