The troglodytes have it made over surface dwellers on these hot summer days. With the surface temps exceeding 100ºF, the temperature down in Carlsbad Caverns stays at a pleasant 56º. Ahhh. And the view is spectacular!
Here are a few photos taken two days ago. There is no natural light whatsoever down there. All the light is from strategically placed incandescent bulbs which provide some color.
This panorama above consists of the same view taken without a flash, then with a flash. As you can see the natural color is rather drab.
Here are some shots from random places within the cavern. Note the handrail in the one on the left above. It provides a little perspective on the enormity of the place.
Finally:
Reach, reach, reach! Just a little bit more! In another few thousand years the points might actually connect.
