Politico tells us in an articled Hillary Clinton’s answer to the has-been charge that Republicans plan to brand Hillary as "a tired relic of the past." And to answer that Democrats plan to hold her as a member of the "1st female" club, i.e., 1st female presidential candidate. Politico:
... Democrats believe that Clinton’s potential to become the country’s first female to win the White House would galvanize voters of all ages.
Isn't it amazing that presidential elections can be won or lost because of simple branding like that? Amazing and disturbing, but candidate Obama did it with nothing more than a few focus group tested slogans. That plus some dirty politics, a compliant media, and a bunch of behavior psychologists with access to a huge database containing every obtainable fact about each voter.
Back to Hillary, her career since her days as a lawyer and commodities trader in Arkansas have been noteworthy for her lack of any real accomplishments. She tried to ram through HillaryCare -- an unworkable healthcare plan -- in the 90s, and it took Barack Obama to finally ram through an unworkable healthcare plan 20 years later. Her term as Senator was uneventful. And as Secretary of State about all she did was burn up jet fuel. So rather than a has-been, she's a never-was.
Maybe Democrats should adopt different tact. Here's the theory: "We've put forth a lot worse candidates than Hillary, and for all her faults, she's better for the country than the last Democrat we foisted on you."
The bumper sticker: "Hillary. Not as bad as Obama."
