Laser pointer as anti-aircraft weapon in Cairo

There's a fascinating video online which shows a helicopter hovering over protestors in Tahrir Square in Cairo the other night. Presumably it's a military helicopter, but in the US it could easily be a TV chopper.

What's remarkable about it is that protestors are shining their laser pointers at it. Click Youtube video to watch the lasers paint green psychedelic images on the underside of the helicopter. That's a dangerous thing to do as it might cause eye damage. But one has to admit it sure does look like an effective defense weapon, that is if the invading aircraft has a human pilot.
