WM, rain gutters need to slope toward the drain -- most sources say the slope should be 1/4 inch per 10 feet. So to get the proper slope one needs to start with a level line.
The Redneck Laser Level helps establish the level line as well as the sloped line. The problem is that it's not that accurate over a long distance. The level bubble can appear to be at top dead center to the eyeball, but it may be off by an undetectable amount. So on a 31 foot roof if the level is off by 1/3 of 1 degree the variance at the end will be two inches.
but what does it do? forgive me -- I live in the desert, and don't understand roof drainage at all, but am soon to move to rainier climes.

Good luck with the move.
