Democrats, low information voters, main stream media and late show comics really shouldn't be that surprised at the resistance fiscal conservatives are demonstrating towards Obamacare.
I had to look up the phrase "social democracy" after Krauthammer described Barack Obama as a social democrat. It's defined at britannica.com as the "political ideology that advocates a peaceful, evolutionary transition of society from capitalism to socialism using established political processes." That would distinguish it from socialism that displaced capitalism through violence.
However socialism comes about, its main feature is the sharing of wealth -- taking from some people and giving it to other people. And to get at that wealth there either had to be force or the threat of force. But it's still taking. And there should be no mystery why so many Americans are opposed to a system that abolishes the principles with which they grew up, i.e., the principle that each American is free to make the most of his/her self without worry that there would be a class of people who sat back, watched and waited patiently for a forced sharing of the fruits of that person's efforts.
Many of us never dreamed socialism could come to the U.S., but in truth, the "social democracy" movement has been at work for a long time with incremental steps that didn't seem significant at the time. It was the old parable of the frog in a pot of slowly heating water.
Obama changed all that. Where before we experienced small steps on the social democracy path, Obamacare was a huge leap that left many regular Americans stunned. Combine that with the shady way he won the reelection and those Americans are in full defensive mode. A sleeping giant awakened.
So this clash we are currently witnessing between Republican and Democrat representatives and senators over whether to defund Obamacare is a skirmish in the war against socialism. To hear Democrats and the msm, one would think Republicans were obstructionists trying to thwart the will of the people. However, our system of government was designed to protect the minority from the majority. And the Republicans are merely trying to do that. After all, forced sharing is a main feature of socialism. And resisting force is a very American thing to do.
