The lion sleeps tonight.
The reason for the Fox Cam and all the chicken drumsticks tossed out as bait is to lure the urban foxes into range for some photos. Unfortunately, most nights two feral cats, Black Cat and Calico, get to the food first. Each day this week I put one drumstick out between 8 and 9 pm and another drumstick between 4 and 5 am. The cats figured it out quickly and must lurk around waiting for a handout. Calico must not have another food source as he even ate some dry dog food one night. In any event, Calico is the top dog in this arena.
Calico sees Fox. Calico hides, watches Fox approach -- see the eyes? Calico creeps onto the scene. A stand off. And Fox turns tail.
Another standoff. Fox turns tail again. All the food is gone by this time anyway.
The next night Black Cat got to the food first. Uh oh, here comes Calico. And in a flash of blurred pixels, Calico chases Black Cat away.
In the early morning hours Fox is nosing around. Hey! Who's there? It's his benefactor bearing a chicken leg offering. Fox makes himself scarce, but a few minutes later he's back, looking for that drumstick.
He's looking. He's looking. Found it! It was a successful night for Old Crocked Tail. He's not always that lucky in this battle for food with those two wily felines. But sometimes ...
In the jungle, the quiet jungle, the lion sleeps tonight. A wimoweh, a-wimoweh, a-wimoweh, a-wimoweh, a wimoweh.
