The morning paper tell us that the developers have dropped out of the Energy Tower proposal that would have put one or two skyscrapers in the spot where the abandoned courthouse now sits in downtown Midland, Texas. See Energy Tower developers announce end of project.
There was huge citizen opposition to this project especially since the project viability seemed to depend on government incentives. Listeners to Robert and Kurt's morning radio show on KCRS heard the developer say last year that the government incentives weren't that important. If they didn't get them they would simply move the project to another part of town.
"Yeah, right," was the response many citizens had as it seemed that this was a project that couldn't happen without help from the government. So now we'll see.
If the plan wasn't dependent on taxpayer help then should go forward somewhere other than downtown, just like the developer said. But let's not hold our breath.
Editor's note: I'm holding my breath. Robo-ed. | Duh. Robots don't breathe. Sleepless.
