Freebeacon.com ran a couple of articles recently about U.S. based activist group OneVoice International. The 501(c)(3) organization has received State Department grants and has partnered with V15, a group in Israel which seeks to oust Benjamin Netanyahu. See State Department-Funded Group Bankrolling Anti-Bibi Campaign.
Then came Cruz Calls for Investigation Into State Dept.-Funded Nonprofit. By the way, a couple of former Obama administration flunkies sit on OneVoice's board -- a coincidence, surely.
But they've already got an excuse ready: The money was for something other than influencing elections. Aw, that's too easy. Money is fungible. So if they got a quarter million dollars and applied it to overhead, then they can say it wasn't used for politics. It just happened to free up other funds for that.
Yes, an investigation certainly does seem warranted.
P.S. Don't you know OneVoice's 501(c)(3) application breezed through the IRS without a second glance?
