Energy news has been dominated lately by the Keystone XL pipeline, the sharp decline in the price of oil, and the oil export ban. But there's another issue that should get some attention. That's the government's requirement that corn be put in our gasoline.
Environmental groups and the petroleum industry both oppose it. But corn farmers had the clout to get it placed into law. A re-do is long overdue.
Senators Toomey, Feinstein and Flake have co-sponsored Senate bill 577 to eliminate the Clean Air Act's mandate for corn in the gasoline we buy at the pump. Will they be successful? We have to hope so.
