Not my idea, but it's a good one. The concept came from the satire site outhousedaily.com last year, and while it's clever, it wouldn't work because there doesn't seem to be a way to fire government workers.
That part is real. Apparently, the head of an agency can't fire employees. So said DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart just last week as she explained that all she could do regarding DEA agents partying with hookers and drugs supplied by drug cartels was send a stern memo.
Can you envision a tough as nails and hungover DEA agent shivering in his jack-boots after seeing the memo? What I envision is a government worker saying, "Yeah? What are you gonna do about it, [expletive, rhymes with witch]?"
There's a job for our next president -- reform the civil service law to give directors some power over their employees. Democrats wouldn't dare take the risk of angering the federal bureaucracy, so it will have to be a Republican.
