Each Fox Friday for the last couple of months I've wondered if it would be the last. Feral cats have commandeered the feeding station, and the foxes have left it to them. Hopefully, the foxes are getting enough food elsewhere. But one cat seems to have become dependent on the food put out for the foxes. As I remarked once before, that cat might make someone a good pet if he/she wanted a pet that won't come near a human.
This past week the fare was going to be dry dog food exclusively. Yellow Cat ate it, and that tells us she probably doesn't have any other source of food. But one night two foxes came by. So the next night I put out three chicken drumsticks -- one was thawed and two were frozen. The theory was that the cat would eat the thawed one and become satiated. Then later as the other two thawed the foxes could come along and get them. It almost worked.
This first set is from Tuesday night. Dry dog food was on the not-so-tempting menu that night.

Wednesday night the bait consisted of one thawed and two frozen drumsticks. Yellow cat got the thawed drumstick. Black Cat hauled off one of the frozen drumsticks. Then along came the foxes.
Old Crooked Tail sniffs around while Little Fox watches from the shadows. Then they both graze. Unfortunately, they didn't appear to want the remaining frozen drumstick, and in the early AM Black Cat came back and got what was left of it.
The handouts this week will be dry dog food again, however a fox presence might justify a more tempting fare. The feline felons take a lot of the fun out of this project. So we're just going to take it week-by-week to see how it goes.
