Last week we commented about President Obama's speech telling us what we should do about Baltimore and how if only the Republicans weren't so bullheaded the government could spend the money to get those impoverished areas in Baltimore going again.
The reason we are revisiting this today is because of an item at freebeacon.com titled Baltimore Received $1.8 Billion from Obama’s Stimulus Law. Go to the link to see a breakdown. But the title makes the point.
The War on Poverty is 50 years old. President Obama's knowledge of American history doesn't go back that far. But the story is there for anyone to see it. While it might have seemed like a good idea at its inception, throwing money at the problem only created dependents. And more problems.
So, President Obama, your suggestion looks a little tired, especially since you've already tried it. Look where it got Baltimore. But that's a hallmark of liberal activism. If spending money didn't work. Spend more money.
And there's the problem with socialism. In theory it sounds like a good idea to put smart people in charge of running an economy in a way that makes everyone financially successful. Problem is, no one is that smart. We would end up with a government picking winners and losers with lots of unintended consequences. What works is to get the government out of the way and let entrepreneurs do what they do best.
Editor's note: Your title would have made a better metaphor if you said the money went up in flames. Robo-ed. -- DOH! Sleepless.
