While politicians flounder over whether the phrase "anchor baby" is politically correct enough for the electorate, it might be worthwhile to note this observation at Breitbart.com, Anchor Baby Delivered Every 93 Seconds.
Democrats are quick to contend that the anchor baby phenomenon doesn't really exist. So if true, that one every minute and a half is an astonishing claim.
So let's look at the source of the number. Breitbart.com cites a Pew research article which cites research which contends that 340,000 babies were born to illegal immigrants in 2008. If we divide that number into the number of seconds in a year, 31,536,000, we do indeed get 92.75 seconds per baby.
But that was way back in 2008, before Obama took over border control. Common sense and memory of the border surge headlines should convince us that the illegal immigrant birth rate is much higher now than it was then.
Meanwhile, in spite of reporters' gotcha lines of inquiry, "anchor baby" still resides off the list of banned words, at least for now.
