I've written about bank robberies from time to time at this blog, probably because of misspent childhood watching old westerns and gangster movies in which a bank robbery got the whole thing rolling. The bad guys usually got caught, so the lesson was a wholesome one. It took. I've never robbed a bank.
These days robbing banks the old fashioned way -- standing at a teller window demanding cash -- is such a poor career choice. The retirement plan really stinks.
What brings this to the surface today is a Youtube video titled When to Rob a Bank, with Freakonomics’ Stephen J. Dubner. I suppose it's an introduction to an instruction if you want to rob a bank with Stephen J. Dubner. But he's only going by what's gone on before. For example he says the most popular day for bank robberies is Friday. That's consistent with the FBI bank robbery stats for 2014.
The stats go on to detail that in addition to Friday being the most popular day, the most popular M.O. is a robbery at a branch office, in a commercial district, in a metropolitan area, in California, with an oral or written demand, made at the counter, with a weapon threatened, between 9 and 11a.m.
As noted above, the retirement plan isn't so hot. However, there is free room and board plus health care and maybe dental.
