It didn't come as any surprise to conservatives that Gwen Ifill succumbed to her affection for Obama. But the animosity toward Benjamin Netanyahu she displayed with her "Take that, Bibi" tweet went a little bit farther. She basically admitted that in a political controversy, she's on Obama's side.
Well yes, the PBS ombudsman criticized her for it. But if it changes anything, journalists will simply try a little harder to conceal their loyalties to Democrats.
Jay Nordlinger gets it right in About Gwen Ifill wherein he encouraged news figures to be open about their partisanship.
We should all know where they stand. They aren't fooling anyone, but when they try to hide it they are really hurting the true non-partisans among them, if there are any, because the default position among conservatives is to think they are all in the tank for today's progressives.
Someone made a suggestions years ago which I think is apt. Require all news people to donate $1,000 each year to a political party. Then publicize the information with a TV crawl under their faces or a footnote at the end of their articles so we all know where they are coming from.
No one likes a pretender.
