There's no shortage on news about the Chicago police since the arrest of the officer who shot a black teen. And only the conservative websites say much about the magnitude of deaths of black youths at the hands of other black youths.
But here's a question that Freebeacon.com tried to answer: How do they get their guns in a legal environment that makes it extremely difficult? See Study finds that Chicago criminals get guns from friends, family. Excerpt:
The survey, funded by the Joyce Foundation and set to be published in the October edition of Preventive Medicine, consisted of interviews with 99 inmates at Chicago’s Cook County Jail who had illegally possessed a gun within six months of their incarceration. It found that most criminals only acquired guns from people they knew and trusted.
“It is rare for offenders to buy from licensed dealers, and also rare for them to steal their guns,” the study says. “Rather, the predominant sources of guns to offenders are family, acquaintances, fellow gang members—which is to say, members of their social network.”
The guns already on the street get passed around. A well made handgun will last a very long time, and if a part breaks it isn't that difficult to obtain a spare part. It's probably safe to say that the guns on the street will outlive their owners even if the owners die of old age.
The gun control movement has a big obstacle of which they are surely aware. They'll never be able to collect all the guns currently in the hands of criminals. That leads to the conclusion that they really just want to disarm the citizens who want to obey the law. It's tempting to speculate as to why, but let's leave that topic for another day.
