The answer is easy enough.
According to Merriam-Webster, socialism means the following:
a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies
The difference is that Democrats believe major industries can be owned by individual people and companies, but they should be controlled by government. See the difference?
However, both Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz dodge the question. Would the answer scare voters? Seems they think it will. So they continue to come up with new phrases, like progressive Democrat, to describe themselves. There. Problem solved and commoners mollified.
Americans: People should have the freedom to make their own mistakes.
Democrats: No. We should be able to make the mistakes for you.
