When a college professor, like University of Texas architecture dean Fritz Steiner, leaves for another job because of the possibility that some the students may be able to carry handguns legally, that was big news for the anti-gun groups. Press releases must have been flying like crazy. Sure enough, many news outlets joined the parade. See, for example, this one from New York Times partner, Texastribune.org: UT Architecture Dean Cites Campus Carry as a Reason for Departure.
As exalted a scholar as he must be, he certainly didn't show much knowledge of human behavior. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens make society safer, not more dangerous. Then again, maybe he has a way with students that turns them into killers.
If only he had used his research skills to see how campus carry has worked in other jurisdictions. David Kopel has. See Guns on university campuses: The Colorado experience where Mr. Kopel tells us that the experience in Colorado is similar to other states -- concealed carry license holders are a very law abiding group. Here's a summation from Mr. Kopel's article:
The experience on Colorado campuses since 2003, and at the University of Colorado since 2012, shows that adult students or professors who are permitted by their local Sheriff to carry a concealed handgun for lawful protection do not perpetrate unlawful aggression. There has been one case in which an employee at CU’s dental school was showing off her gun, and accidentally fired it. She was immediately and properly fired.
Unfortunately, many of the left's programs are based less on fact than on unshakable, religious-like beliefs.
Meanwhile, here's a link to Dallasnews.com's interactive Campus Carry Tracker where the viewer can see what campus' in Texas allow and don't allow.
Oh, and look at this. Chelsea Clinton let slip that mother Hillary is as firmly committed to gun control as most of us suspected. The real unknown is Donald Trump.
