Emancipation Day, a holiday celebrated in Washington, DC, normally falls on April 16. But this year that's a Saturday. So most entities will be observing it on the preceding Friday which is April 15, 2016. No one has to be reminded what April 15 is.
Wouldn't it be a hoot if Emancipation Day happened to be tax day? What a joke that would be for the late night comics. Emancipated from what, we would ask with a laugh, if we could laugh after licking the envelope.
Anyway, the IRS saw that one coming, and tax day was extended to the following Monday, April 18, 2016, for most of us. It's April 19 for those living in Maine and Massachusetts, perhaps due to their own holiday schedule.
In any event, if you'll extend whatever the due day, here's a link for extension information.
