The U.S. is faced with an influx of immigrants who, whether or not they think they should assimilate, face pressure from two fronts. One is their own desire to make their new environment like the old one. The other is from special interest groups that try to discourage assimilation.
Britain is facing a similar problem, and a survey provides some sobering attitudes. Daily Mail reports about a TV documentary about a survey of 1,801 adults compiled from a random sample who identified as Muslim. See More than half of Muslims want gay sex to be outlawed and nearly a quarter support areas of UK being run under sharia law. Excerpt:

He told The Sunday Times Magazine: 'I thought Europe's Muslims would gradually blend into the landscape. I should have known better. ...
Nearly three million Muslims currently call Britain home, half of which were born abroad, while it is projected that at least six million will live in Britain by 2050.
"'The integration of Muslims will probably be the hardest task' the country has ever faced." That sounds overly optimistic.
