Yesterday evening one of the local TV station's weather people predicted area storms and wind gusts in nearby Big Spring, Texas, of up to 74 mph.
Now that's a powerful wind! Did it happen? My link to historical weather at NOAA.gov no longer works. The best I can find for historical data is this one which showed a gusts of 32 mph at MAF. That was outside the area covered by the storm clouds, and there isn't an easy way for the arm chair weather observer to get that particular bit of historical data for that location.
However, if there were sustained winds of 74 mph, then that is a hurricane by definition. Residents along the Gulf Coast would have cleared the store shelves. Whew! We dodged a hurricane.
