This has got to be the next best thing to a ray gun. The present model is a bit large -- it needs a 20 foot shipping container and a diesel generator. But the potential is huge, if it works as planned.
What this "Phaser" does is fire a directed blast of microwave at the target. And it's basically a small EMP which will knock out the electronics of anything in the path of the wave.

That's nice if the enemy is using weaponized drones. But let's think big here. Couldn't they also serve as an anti-missile system?
At the very least it might be useful to disable a Russian jet should one try to harass a Navy ship like they did recently. Oh, we would rescue the pilot, but the video of that expensive jet sinking in the deep blue sea would likely go viral.
