Agribusiness has been on the dole for so long that to take them off it cold turkey would be portrayed as mean spirited and stingy. OK, but can't we wean them off it gradually and let them adapt to the free market? That makes sense, but it really depends on the strength of their lobby.
As a general rule, if government these days is an organ of income redistribution, and if we're looking at a permanent entitlement in the form of whatever Obamacare becomes, then at least attempt to benefit the maximum number of people rather than narrow industry groups.
