The good news is that DARPA is working to protect the electric grid from attack. The bad news is that they are only concerned with cyber-attacks and the defense won't be ready til 2020. But enough people have been warning of missile delivered overhead nuclear explosives that plenty of us are worried. They say a paralysis of the electric grid -- which a massive exposure to gamma rays would do -- is a very real threat given so many of our enemies are or soon will be able to deliver a nuclear armed missile.
There's that ominous prediction that if the electricity goes off 90% of the population will perish within the first year -- not a welcome prospect. From time to time I order some dried food to tide me over while I fend off the gangs of armed urban marauders aiming to kill me for whatever scraps of food I have left. But worst of all, this blog will go dark once the power goes off.
