When Ronald Reagan advocated a missile defense system years ago Democrats were dead set against it. Derision is a typical tactic of lefties, and in that case they called it "Star Wars" to try to express how fanciful the whole idea was. But with fits and starts the program went ahead anyway.
Fast forward to the present. North Korea makes weekly verbal threats against the U.S., and all too frequently they test some aspect of their weapons program to demonstrate their capability. The closer they get to a functional delivery system of a nuclear weapon the more seriously many Americans take those threats.
So it's refreshing to see "Star Wars" actually took shape. See Pentagon to test new anti-missile system in wake of North Korea threat.
There are probably a few hold-overs from the 80s when Democrats were so vehemently opposed to it. But for the most part, they are silent these days.
Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear Democrats admit they were wrong? Yeah, but don't count on it. In hit-and-run partisan politics the only objective seems to be to get negative headlines for the opponent then move on to something else knowing that any rebuttal will not get the same coverage.
